Having so much free information online gives young people tons of chances to learn on their own. But it also brings problems like getting caught in "fake news" and means teachers really need to change how they teach.

From Books to Phones: How Young People Learn Now

Millennial kids grew up with blackboards and pens, but Gen Z and Gen Alpha have been surrounded by all sorts of information since they first held a phone. For them, the internet isn't just for fun; it's like a school without walls, where every time they scroll and follow someone, they can learn something new. They can learn languages on YouTube, figure out coding on apps like TikTok, or even take online classes from top universities – all without leaving home.

The Bad Side of Having So Much "Free" Knowledge

It makes you wonder if having so much information constantly coming at them might actually leave this generation feeling a bit lost, and unsure about what's reliable and what's not, right?

Within the vast information matrix, children, with limited life experience and analytical skills, are easily overwhelmed by unofficial sources, fake news, or harmful content. A lack of proper guidance can lead them to absorb incorrect knowledge, form biased viewpoints, and even become entangled in negative content.

Fragmented and shallow learning is another major challenge. Faced with too many enticing options, young people may develop habits of distraction, quick boredom, and a reluctance to delve deeply into any field. The result of this superficial, unstructured learning is a generation that "knows a little about many things but masters nothing." They may grasp surface-level information and basic concepts but lack the ability to analyze, synthesize, evaluate, or apply knowledge in real-life contexts.

This poses a significant challenge to modern education. Equipping students not only with knowledge but also effective learning skills, including focus, perseverance, critical thinking, and deep inquiry, has never been more crucial. Educational methods must evolve to foster genuine curiosity and create opportunities for students to explore and research topics in depth, rather than skimming superficially.

Helping Kids Think Clearly and Deeply in the Online World

A promising path for the younger generation in the digital era lies in creating environments where technology becomes a trusted companion, sparking proactive exploration and encouraging profound knowledge discovery. Instead of one-way information delivery, these environments focus on cultivating critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and thought development through hands-on projects.

"Technology is becoming increasingly integral to life, and children should build these foundations early. That’s why I enrolled my child in TechTrain’s creative tech programs to help them develop holistically for the future," shared Ngoc Anh, a parent whose child participates in TechTrain’s programs.
